The Afro-Cuban Skincare & Beauty Workshop
December 7-8, 2019
Over the course of two days the Afro-Cuban Skincare and Beauty Workshop (December 7-8, 2019; Havana, Cuba) will empower Afro-Cuban women to recognize, embrace, and celebrate their unique features and skin tones. With focused roundtable discussions, live demos, and product sampling, participants will learn the best skincare practices and products for melanated skin via access to the best beauty resources for melanated skin that are not available on the island.
We need your help to make it happen!
BLACK BEAUTY & CUBA
Until recently, under Cuban socialist law, highlighting Afro-Cuban identity has not only been discouraged, but also punishable by law and deemed anti-revolutionary. This, combined with an almost 60 year embargo has contributed to a lack of access to and knowledge of quality skincare and beauty products for Afro-Cuban women. But now with the Latin American market contributing 31.9 billion dollars to the 380+ billion dollar per year global beauty industry many, including major publications such as Vogue and Vanity Fair, are venturing into the Cuban sphere.
Today, there exists a unique opening for engagement with the island by the US beauty industry. This opening is further amplified in the Afro-Cuban community, which is visually represented in approximately 50-75% of the nation. This burgeoning market is hungry for variety and options to participate in the global beauty market and move from background to center stage.
Contribute to the drive with an in-kind donation. We are looking for unopened beauty products and tools for a variety of skin tones, including but not limited to foundation, powder, eyeliner, mascara, blush, beauty brushes, beauty blenders, etc.
